Dr. Kennett Wutoh, a physiotherapist at the Department of Physical Therapy, University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota USA, donated academic books to the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS). He indicated that this was the second time he had donated to UHAS, as a way of “giving back to the Volta region” where he hails from. He made the presentation on behalf of a team of volunteers, led by Dr. Barbara Nash, of which he is a member.

The five cartons of books cover various subjects such as pediatric physiotherapy, geriatric physiotherapy, neurorehabilitation, neuroscience, exercise physiology, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, disability management, patient care skills, orthopedic and sports physiotherapy, physiotherapy documentation, and professional ethics for rehabilitation professionals.

In order to produce physiotherapists with a strong foundation in clinical knowledge and research, they need to be equipped with clinical and therapeutic skills from the onset. This would allow them to practise evidence-based physiotherapy within the legal and ethical framework of the profession, both locally and globally.

In that regard, Dr. Evans Ashigbi, Head of Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, who received the books on behalf of the department, noted that the books are timely and relevant, adding, “This will ensure that both students and faculty have access to additional reading materials that will enhance teaching and learning in the Department.” He expressed appreciation for the repeated generosity to UHAS by Dr. Wutoh and his team of volunteers.

Mr. Emmanuel Prempeh, Head of Administration at SAHS, noted that “The contemporary content in the various disciplines of the books will help in teaching and learning of the Department and the University at large.”

On behalf of the students, Ms. Albright Amedor expressed gratitude for the kind donation and assured the team that the books would be well utilized to improve their studies.
