41 UHAS-trained doctors, the first cohort to graduate from the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery programme of the UHAS School of Medicine, were among 416 newly qualified doctors and dentists inducted by the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC) on 30 September.
The 416 newly qualified practitioners, recruited as house officers this year, join 293 foreign-trained counterparts and others who also passed the GMDC exams and were inducted earlier in the year, to enter the Ghana health care system this year. That number is expected to rise to over 1000 when additional medical students from other institutions complete their final exams and are inducted.
The afternoon induction ceremony was preceded by a morning seminar that included talks on ethics and medical jurisprudence, as well as the law regulating medical and dental practice in Ghana.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gyapong and Prof. Harry Tagbor, Dean of the School of Medicine, led a UHAS delegation, comprising faculty of SOM, to the ceremony.
