The International Programmes Directorate of University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho in collaboration with a 5 member team of UK-based surgeons organized a free dental screening exercise for natives of Abutia Kloe in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.

Dr. George Brown, a member of the UK based medical team, advised participants to take good care of their teeth by brushing twice daily. He also advised them not to replace brushing with the use of mouthwash because mouthwash has a minimal effect in terms of fighting bacteria in the mouth as compared to tooth brushing.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. George Ashinyo, the Ho West District Health Director, expressed his profound appreciation to the team for their visit. He called for greater collaborations in the near future. He further entreated the participants to visit the hospital regularly for routine checks on their health status and also avoid self-medication and unhealthy lifestyles that may be harmful to their health.

Professor Francis Zotor, Director of International Programmes, UHAS and Madam Rejoice Adzande, a Physician Assistant at the Tsito Health Centre spoke on the need for the participants to be mindful of their health.

With the aim of giving back to the society, the members of the team began the exercise in Hohoe, where about four hundred (400) patrons were screened. The team was also at Tsito where over one hundred and eighty (180) community members participated in the screening exercise.

Other members of the team were: Dr. Christopher Vondee, Mrs. Pat Vondee, Dr. Malcolm Farr and Mrs. Cynthia Kudzi Farr, Madam Sitsofe Ama Boateng, Assembly Woman of Abutia, some officials from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Ho West District, some officials of the Ghana Health Service Ho West District and staff of Abutia Kloe Health Centre were also present to assist in the exercise.
