The Works and Physical Development Directorate of UHAS in collaboration with the 66 Artillery Training School of the Ghana Armed Forces at Akoefe, concluded a three-week training programme on February 16, for almost 140 security personnel of the University.

Major King David Sakyi, Chief Instructor of the Artillery Training School, who declared the course duly closed on behalf of the Commanding Officer, commended UHAS for the long-standing relationship over the years and the confidence reposed in his outfit for the training to enhance the security architecture of UHAS.

“We hope this training will continue to enhance the already strong bond and future collaborations between our institutions to carry out our respective task,” he said.

After their rigorous drills, tactics and intensive lessons, Major Sakyi commended the personnel for their passion, dedication, and eagerness to learn, saying, “Your diligence and determination have not gone unnoticed and it is with pride that we present to you your certificates.” He urged them to continue to carry on the lessons learnt and to maximize their potential, and gather valuable skills and knowledge that would boost their professional capabilities. He also praised the team of seasoned instructors that were assembled to conduct the training.

UHAS Vice Chancellor Professor Lydia Aziato, on behalf of the UHAS Council, management, and staff, applauded the Commanding Officer and his team, who generously agreed to train the security personnel of UHAS. She also praised Works and Physical Development Directorate for the laudable initiative and challenged them to continuously conduct assessments of the security personnel.

She congratulated the new cohort for completing the training, and expressed hope that it would improve their performance in protecting both life and public assets of the University. She said, “The responsibility that you have as a security personnel, is as important as what I have as the Chief Executive Officer of the University.”

The Registrar, Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, noted that “training is a necessity” for us to identify and bridge the gaps that exist in the work that we do for an improved performance at work, hence, “it is very necessary that the University continuously put together these measures to enhance the skills of personnel to deliver on their assignment.” She also encouraged the security personnel to put in their maximum effort that they have acquired to be able to take good care of people and property on the various campuses of the University.

Arc. Ruth Xoladem Ayittey, UHAS Director of Works and Physical Development, indicated that after this training, she is expectant that the security personnel would have inculcated some new skills, ethics and confidence in themselves to understand their assignments and tasks better to be able to improve upon their work output in UHAS. “I implore the personnel to identify and explore new areas where they could be more skillful and talented at, in order to provide top-notch security service to the University.”

Mr. Solomon Akrong, Acting Human Resource Director, also reiterated to the personnel that in discharging their duties at various campuses of the University, “let this training impact on your work which will in turn to affect your appraisals.”

Mr. Afari Emmanuel, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked UHAS management and the 66 Artillery Training School of the Ghana Armed Forces for organising such a training to enhance their capacity as security personnel, saying, “the effect of the training will materialize in our performance.”
