In partnership with Audiologists Alumni Association of University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Hui’er Ghana donated auditory items to the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Therapy at the School of Allied health Sciences (SAHS) on October 19, 2023. The items included hearing aids, ear modes, a 3D anatomy of the ear, impression materials, and other auditory items.
Mr. Benjamin Kwesi Arthur, CEO of Hui’er Ghana, said that the aim of his company is to provide, source and assemble hearing aids and other equipment in Ghana. Hence, “we look forward to providing the needed support to students in their training as professional audiologists.”
The President of Audiologists Alumni Association of UHAS, Mr. Kplorla Ahiawortor, said that the aim of the association is to help address the needs of the department and to help find jobs for alumni of the association. He also noted that as the first cohort of alumni of the department, “we wanted to bridge the gap between practical, hands-on experience in the industry and academia. Hence, as members of the alumni and with collaboration with Hui’er Ghana, we decided to contribute our quota to this great cause.”
Dr. Olawale Ogundiran, Head of the Department Speech, Language and Hearing Therapy, who received the items on behalf of Management, applauded the collaborative initiative by the Audiologists Alumni Association of UHAS and Hui’er Ghana, saying, “This is a laudable initiative and it will help the department.” He also said the items would go a long way, not only in facilitating teaching, but to put a smile on the face of each patient they attend to at the Centre. “The after-sale problems are also eliminated, because the equipment is assembled locally and serviced locally,” he said.
Mr. Emmanuel Prempeh, Head of administration at SAHS, who welcomed the delegation, noted that the items would enable the students to have hands-on experience, thereby promoting the UHAS core value of being a practically oriented, research University.
Mrs. Deborah Lamptey, an assistant lecturer at the department, on behalf of faculty and students, expressed profound gratitude for the kind gesture and promised that the items would be put to good use in the department to facilitate teaching and learning.
