The 2022/23 Medical Laboratory Sciences Students Association of UHAS (MELSSA-UHAS) has donated a digital microscope to the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the School of Allied Health Sciences in a bid to support their ever-growing department.
According to Mr. Kenneth Ablordey, President of MELSSA, the increasing number of students admitted into the department calls for an increase in the numbers of tools used for their training. He noted that training in microscopy, the science of investigating small objects and structures using a microscope, is an integral part of their education and said the laboratory lacks some of these amenities, which is why they and their patrons decided to make this generous donation.
Earlier in the academic year, the MELSSA executives of 2020/21 donated two projectors to the department to augment teaching aids in the department.
Receiving the equipment, Dr. George Aboagye, Acting Dean, thanked the students and their patrons for the kind gesture and called on other departments to follow suit. He also said building the University, School and Department is a collective endeavour and he hopes they receive more of such donations.
