Professor Kwasi Yankah, the Minister in Charge of Tertiary Education, inaugurated the second substantive council of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Accra.
Delivering a speech after the inauguration, the Minister reiterated the fact that UHAS was established by an Act of Parliament (Act 828, 2011) with ‘the aim of providing higher education in health sciences, constructing and disseminating knowledge acquired to the needs and aspirations of the people’.
He charged the newly inaugurated Council Members to “give policy directions towards ensuring high standards in academic output and giving graduates from this university a distinctive mark solely associated with the University of Health and Allied Sciences and none other”.
Professor Yankah also seized the occasion to commend the previous governing council chairman and the founding Vice-Chancellor and his successor, as well as the teams that supported them to propel the university to an enviable height within its short period of existence.
He further reminded the new Council members of the challenges confronting young universities like UHAS and solutions to such problems can only be arrived at under a creative guidance and leadership of the governing Council.
The Council Members include: Justice Victor Mawulom Jones Dotse (Chairman), Professor John Owusu Gyapong (Vice-Chancellor, UHAS) ; Professor Victor Patrick Yao Gadzekpo (Member),Dr. Sylvia Ayeley Deganus (Member), Dr. Nana Owusu-Afari (Member),Mr. Richard K. Adjei (Member), Dr. Mark Amexo (Member), Dr. Emmanuel Newman( NCTE), Mr. Courage Meteku ( Representative of CHASS), Professor Harry Kwami Tagbor (Representative of Convocation-professorial), Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni (Representative of Convocation-professorial), Mr. Kwesi Aseredum Hagan (Representative of FUSSAG), Mr. Joshua Gadasu, (Representative of TEWU), Dr. Francis Zotor (Representative of UTAG), Mr. Afrane Pious (Representative of SRC).
In his response on behalf of the Council, His Lordship Justice Victor Mawulom Jones Dotse said they will do all in their best to continue the good work done by the out gone Council and also help improve upon the standard they have come to meet the University.
