University of Health and Allied Sciences, in collaboration with Salford University and Worldwide Radiology, organised training for ten medical doctors from selected Ghanaian institutions on point-of-care ultrasonography. This comprehensive training entailed a pre-course online session conducted on the Salford University platform, and a one-week hands-on session conducted at the Skills Laboratory at the School of Medicine (SOM-UHAS) in Ho, Volta Region.
The June 7 to 14 hands-on session, conducted with a wide spectrum of pathologies and normal volunteers, was led by Prof. Yaw Asante Awuku, HOD Internal Medicine, SOM-UHAS and Dr. Elizabeth Joekes, Director and Consultant of Worldwide Radiology, a UK-based NGO.
The opening ceremony was attended by UHAS Vice Chancellor Prof. John O. Gyapong, Prof. Eric Ofori, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, and Dr. John Tampouri, CEO/Medical Director of Ho Teaching Hospital. A June 10 virtual public lecture, presented by Dr. Joekes and chaired by Prof. Awuku, attracted 125 participants.
