On 12th April, 2019, the University of Health and Allied Sciences conferred an Honorary Doctorate degree on Professor David Molyneux in recognition of his illustrious committed leadership and exemplary contributions and unflagging impact on Health and development globally.
The Former World Health Organization (WHO) Adviser on trypanosomiasis, onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis and malaria control received his Honorary Degree at the end of a two-day UHAS Leadership Series in memory of Professor John Evans Atta-Mills at the Cedi Auditorium, Ho.
In his acceptance speech, he first and foremost expressed his heartfelt gratitude to UHAS for the special opportunity and particularly the Vice Chancellor for his vision, commitment and leadership. Professor Molyneux expressed his personal delight for the honour bestowed on him and described himself as ‘part of the body’ of the University of Health and Allied Sciences. He was optimistic that, this good relationship would continue through collaborative efforts between UHAS and himself.
In bestowing the honorary degree, Professor Margret Gyapong, Director, Institute of Health Research-UHAS, read a citation to honour his achievements. She said that Professor David H. Molyneux’s research has consistently taken an interest in academic study and research in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). She enumerated notable research topics and recognitions from other higher Universities and professional bodies that have honoured and celebrated Professor Molyneux for his contributions to the study and development of science across the world.
