The University Council led by its Chairman, His Lordship Justice Victor Jones Mawulorm Dotse met traditional leaders of Fodome on Thursday, August 22, 2019.
In his opening remarks, His Lordship Justice Victor Jones Mawulorm Dotse, expressed his appreciation to Togbui Gbedegbleme, the Paramount Chief of Fodome Traditional area as well as other traditional leaders in the area for the cordial relationship that has existed between UHAS and Fodome. He also relayed the gratitude of UHAS to Fodome for the 964 acres of land donated for the establishment of the permanent campus of the School of Public Health.
In a welcome address delivered by Togbui Diabo XI from Fodome Hloma, on behalf of Togbui Gbedegbleme, he expressed appreciation for the visit and recounted their earlier visit of traditional leaders with the Volta Regional Minister to the Vice Chancellor. The purpose of that visit was to urge management to speed up the project for the establishment of the School of Public Health at Fodome.
Professor John Owusu Gyapong the Vice Chancellor explained the challenges facing the completion of the School of Public Health project. He however stated that, negotiations are ongoing to secure adequate funds from GETFund to complete the project. The Vice Chancellor also appealed to the traditional leaders to fall on influential persons, government officials as well as indigenes of Fodome to draw the attention of government to the bottle necks hindering the expedient completion of the School of Public Health project in Fodome. He also took the opportunity to introduce the new Dean of the School of Public Health, Professor Paul Amuna to the traditional leaders.
Dr. Cynthia Sena Kpeglo, the Registrar of UHAS, was grateful for the warm reception given to the members of the University Council and also appreciated the fruitful discussions engaged in by both parties.
Other Members of the University present were; Professor Seth Owusu Agyei, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Dr. William Vidogah, Director of Works and Physical Development; Other members of Council namely; Mr. Courage Meteku, Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS); Mr. Cedric Dorkenoo, Council Recorder; Mr. Baffour Gyem Darkwa, Public Affairs; Staff from the School of Public Health and a number of traditional leaders from Fodome.
