A team from the UHAS Debate Society won the maiden Regional Inter-Universities Championship debate organized by Select and Groom Future Leaders, which is a social group for the three (3) universities in the Volta Region. The competition was between the Ho Technical University (HTU), Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC) and UHAS. The program was held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at HTU; however, the awards were presented on Saturday, September 28, 2019.
Samuel Nii Amarlai Nathan, a Level 400 Medicine student and the outgoing president of the UHAS Debate Society, and Nathaniel Angaag, a Level 200 Medical Imaging student represented UHAS. The team from the three universities was tasked to present for and against the motion: “The free senior high school policy has uplifted the level of education in Ghana”.
The UHAS team, who won the debate both for and against the motion, presented the trophy to Professor John Owusu Gyapong, Vice Chancellor of UHAS on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in his office. The Vice Chancellor congratulated the team for their achievement and wished them well in future competitions. He also charged them to strive to always be on top and to win national competitions.
