The First Session of the 8th UHAS Congregation came off successfully, with two iterations of the ceremony held on the Main Campus, December 16. Michael Mensah, from the School of Pharmacy, was the Valedictorian.
The Chairman of Council, Justice Victor J.M. Dotse, said UHAS is living up to its mission and vision by equipping students with relevant skills and knowledge in their various fields of study, and providing congenial environment and facilities to aid teaching and learning. He said, the University is committed to producing “world class graduates who will fit into every working environment in the health sector and be versatile enough to adapt to every new challenge in these areas that are very important, to bring out the best in the health professionals we are training.”
The Guest Speaker, Reverend Professor Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi (bottom left), Former Provost, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana spoke on the theme, ‘Providing Quality Technology Driven Healthcare in the 21st Century’. He said the 21st Century has become widely recognized as the age of technology, which has led many stakeholders to heavily invest in technology-driven healthcare to guarantee the provision of high-quality services.
He advised the fresh graduates to prepare themselves effectively to utilize this technology, and to “let humanity show up” in their professional lives. “Be humane and considerate in life,” he told them.
He also noted that New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are getting inextricably integrated in health care delivery across the world, hence the need to bring some new perspectives in this regard.
The Minister for Education, represented by Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie (middle), Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, urged universities to constantly re-evaluate their programmes to ensure they are in line with the latest industry trends and demands.
