The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) received two visitors from the United States, who called on the University’s Senior Management on Tuesday, 23 July, 2019. The visit was coordinated by Professor Francis B. Zotor, Director of International Programmes (UHAS).
Representing the University of Illinois, Springfield (UIS) was Professor Josiah Alamu and Mrs Georgia Winson who also represented the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach (HSMO). The University of Illinois has an already established collaboration with UHAS and as part of the existing collaboration was the need for both institutions to plan a course of action to develop opportunities at their disposal for the mutual interest of the two institutions while exploring new areas of collaboration.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor John Gyapong welcomed the delegation to the University. He indicated that the UHAS was elated to establish new partnership in order to work within the Vision of the Institution. He was delighted that the Collaboration with University of Illinois has born new opportunity.
Mrs Georgia Winson in her summation disclosed that, HSMO was a Medical and Resource Supply Organization that is actively engaged in initiatives to improve the quality of medical supplies of equipment to be donated to middle and low income Countries. She pledged on behalf of her Organization to establish a long-term link with UHAS to know the needed medical equipment UHAS will require, enabling HSMO to offer such needed assistance. She also gave a brief overview of HSMO’s long history activities and achievements towards providing high quality medical supplies and equipment to more than 90 countries.
Professor John Gyapong, Vice Chancellor, express his gladness on the Courtesy visit paid to the Senior Management, further appreciating HSMO for enquiring from the University the necessary medical equipment needed by Schools within the University rather than, providing equipment that will become obsolete. He stated that some of the new medical equipment needed will be made known to them as soon as possible so as to enhance adequate teaching of the use of the equipment’s to medical students in order to give utmost care to patient at Hospitals.
As part of the visit, the delegation held working meeting led by Professor Zotor with the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Achibald Letsa who had assembled his notable lieutenants within the Health fraternity. Gathered at the Minister’s Residency, were the Senior Management from the Volta Regional Health Directorate, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital and the Dean, School of Medicine, UHAS.
The meeting was very productive and both Professor Josiah Alamu and Mrs Georgia Winson again pledged on behalf of their respective institutions to work very closely with the Volta Region to best supply medical equipment needed to meet the Health needs of the people of Volta Region and the Nation at large.
