University of Health and Allied Sciences has launched its Summer School Programme with the aim of exposing the University to the international scene and vice versa. The duration of the programme is three weeks, with its first cohort of four participants from York University, Canada.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Lydia Aziato told the audience at the ceremony on June 1 that, although UHAS has various international affiliates, the dream of the summer school is to continuously engage with other universities to learn and share ideas, skills, research and content areas.
She noted that the services of healthcare professionals have been in greater demand during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, hence the need to train more professionals to fill that need. “We are interested in your collaboration because we believe healthcare is dynamic and together, we can train better students for the health sector everywhere.”
Dr. Robert A. Kaba, Dean, Office of International Programme (OIP), said one of the key mandates of OIP is to “internationalize” the University and firmly place it on the world map while creating opportunities for both students and faculty to benefit from collaborations.
Prof. Frank Baiden, Chairman of the Summer School Planning Committee, said the goal is to have long-term relationship with collaborations and networks. “We are in an era of global learning and comparative learning help us get better.”
Ms. Julie Hart, International Relations Manager, Faculty of Health at YorkU, said her university has had a good relationship with UHAS since 2018, and looks forward to leveraging on the mutual benefits the two universities stand to gain from their continuous collaborations through global partnerships.
