ARCH at Queen’s University, Ontario-Canada is hosting awards for individual researchers through the Queen Elizabeth Scholars – Advanced Scholars Network for Equity in Maternal and Child Health as well prioritizing armed conflict, remote populations, displaced persons, and people with disabilities.

Queen Elizabeth and advanced scholars fellowship (QES) aims at identifying scholars who show leadership potentials while supporting them in acquiring world-ready research experience through international Universities, and in collaboration with either a non-profit organization or industry.

The QES programme being hosted by ARCH is a Research Collaboration for Global Health Equity based at Queen’s University and will be overseeing the implementation of the QES program. ARCH believes in a just world, where all people realize their human rights, full potential and well-being. ARCH inspires to do research, capacity development and knowledge translation to improve health equity in Canada and internationally.

Dr. Nuworza Kugbey (Lecturer, School of Public Health Hohoe-Campus) and Dr. Phidelia Theresa Doegah (Research Fellow, Institute of Health Research) both of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, were awarded this prestigious fellowship to be trained in research and leadership capacity building for a period of three months (June to August, 2019) at the Queen’s University, Canada after competing with other applicants across the world.

Dr. Kugbey’s work during this fellowship focuses on Maternal Mental Health with the hope of providing evidence for integrating Mental Health into primary Health care to promote Maternal and Child Health. Dr. Doegah’s research is on male partner involvement in Maternal Health using an Implementation Research (IR) approach. This is with the aim of identifying barriers and effective interventions to promote Maternal and Child Health.

After the fellowship, the fellows are expected to transfer their knowledge to their home institutions.
