Professor Theophilus C. Fleischer, the outgoing Acting Dean of SOP, said everyone needs to be informed about the benefits and drawbacks of medication, because misuse could have adverse effects. He commended the students for choosing locations they visit annually for teaching, screening and counselling, adding that faculty were in total support of the students’ plan to help these communities, hence the suspension of lectures during the outreach.

On the campus of Asiekpe Basic School, the day’s events included checking vital signs, testing for blood sugar and hepatitis B, providing counselling, and giving out some over-the-counter medications. Other students went out into the community to inform people about the beneficial and harmful uses of drugs, drug administration, and drug storage. They also visited people in their homes and shops.

The enthusiastic community members thanked UHAS authorities for supporting the students in this endeavour and conveyed their happiness and gratitude to the student pharmacists for taking the initiative.
