Professor Lydia Aziato, Vice Chancellor, welcomed the Volta Caucus of the Parliament of Ghana to the University of Health and Allied Sciences Main Campus on November 6. She enumerated the successes accomplished within the 11 years of the university’s existence. The Vice-Chancellor also seized the opportunity to bring to the fore the challenges being experienced by the university. She said for UHAS to fulfil its core mandate of training quality health professionals, there is need for support from all stakeholders, including members of the legislature in the Volta Region. She urged the members of the legislature to consider instituting scholarship schemes for students from their constituencies to assist brilliant but needy students.

Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah, Chairman of the Volta Caucus, who led eleven members of parliament on this visit, stated that the objective of their visit was to interact with the university management and staff. He used the opportunity to congratulate the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar on their appointments. He also congratulated management, faculty, and the entire staff of UHAS for the numerous achievements within these few years of its existence. Members of parliament interacted with management and clarified some significant issues pertaining to accreditation, technology, and collaborations with Ministry of Health and other agencies.

The member of Parliament for Ho West constituency indicated that although they may not offer direct solutions to the challenges, he promised that, they would advocate for the needs of UHAS during their roles on various committees of Parliament.

Also present at the meeting were the Registrar, Ms. Yaa Amankwa Opuni, some deans, directors and staff.
