On March 11, a group from York University visited the UHAS Main Campus. The delegation was led by Professor Amir Asif, Vice-President for Research and Innovation. UHAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Lydia Aziato extended a cordial welcome to the delegation in the UHAS Council Chamber.
Professor Asif said that the goal of this visit was to investigate and talk about possible paths for cooperation between the two prestigious universities. including professor and student exchanges, cooperative research projects, and prospects for grant writing and funding. Specifically, he said, YorkU is very interested in developing collaborations with academic departments that specialize in the various health science programmes, since this is a health university.
Vice Chancellor Professor Lydia Aziato, expressed her excitement about the potential for continued partnership between YorkU and UHAS, and acknowledged the strong relationship between the two universities. Beginning in 2020 till date, York University has sponsored a total of four Ph.D. students through its ASCEND programme (Advancing Scholarship for Emerging Nursing Doctorates); and students from York University constituted the first cohort to attend the UHAS Summer School programme, which was launched in 2023.
VC also spoke on the successes chalked by UHAS as well as various challenges, and outlined some benefits she hoped UHAS could garner from collaborations, including assistance through grants to improve laboratory spaces for the School of Pharmacy and School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences; targeted programmes that would help local health professionals to integrate faster when they travel; technological training for health professionals and a good IT center where such training would be held.
She also invited interested actors within the health space to partner with UHAS.
The YorkU Vice-President was accompanied by Professor David Henry Peters, Dean of the Faculty of Health; Professor Solomon Boakye-Yiadom, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies; Professor Godfred Odei Boateng, Director of the Global and Environment Health Lab, Associate Director of Global Engagement and Strategic Initiatives, and Ms. Julie Hard, International Relations Manager of the Faculty of Health.
Other UHAS officials present: Professor Henry Tagbor, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Ms. Yaa Amankwa Opuni, Registrar; and various Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, and Senior Members.
