Israeli Embassy in Ghana Strengthens Ties with UHAS

June 17, 2026

The Israeli Embassy in Ghana has paid a courtesy call on the Management of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), signaling a new chapter of collaboration in education, research, nutrition science and technological innovation.

The discussions centered on deepening institutional links between UHAS and Israeli universities, with opportunities for joint master’s and PhD programmes that would allow Ghanaian students to gain practical training and research experience in Israel. Other areas of focus included collaboration through the MASHAV International Development Cooperation Programme, access to competitive alumni grants, direct engagement with Israeli innovation hubs such as IDC Herzliya University and the Jerusalem Innovation Hub, and faculty exchange initiatives.

UHAS leadership affirmed its commitment to partnerships that enhance healthcare education and international research. A highlight of the meeting was the recognition of five MASHAV alumni currently serving as faculty in the Department of Diet at UHAS School of Allied Health Sciences.
The Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Professor Lydia Aziato, praised Israel’s groundbreaking research in nutrition and its Nobel laureates, noting that formal collaboration with Israeli institutions would fill a significant gap in UHAS’ network of over ninety international partnerships across North America, Europe and Africa.

The Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Aviel Avraham, expressed admiration for UHAS’ scenic campus, describing it as one of the most beautifully situated institutions he had visited. Drawing on his own journey from refugee to diplomat, he emphasized the transformative power of education. He praised the MASHAV alumni at UHAS as a “source of immense potential” and pledged to leverage their presence to expand collaboration. He further encouraged UHAS faculty to apply directly to Israeli universities for academic development opportunities and highlighted grants available to alumni for implementing development projects.
