General information
It is announced for the information of prospective applicants and the general public that application has been opened for admission into the Access Course leading to a four and half year Graduate Entry Medical Programme expected to commence in the second semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
General Entry Requirements
- Applicants must hold a BSc or equivalent degree in Science-based programmes including Physician Assistantship, Pharmacy, Nursing, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Biomedical Engineering, Laboratory Sciences, Physiotherapy, Agricultural Science, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, or Radiography etc. with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Local Applicants
- In addition, candidates should have also obtained a WASSCE/SSSCE (or equivalent) aggregate of 16 or better in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and three (3) elective science subjects.
- However, candidates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher may be considered regardless of their WASSCE grades, provided they took at least two general science subjects.
International Applicants:
Must have a pass in English Language at the GCSE Ordinary level (or equivalent examination) or a score of at least 7 for the Academic International English Language Test System (IELTS). Additionally, students should not score below 6.0 in any of the modules (reading, writing, speaking, and listening)
- Personal Statement: Shortlisted students must submit a personal statement to the School of Medicine explaining their desire to become physicians.
The GEMP Access Course
- The Access Course is a 4-week (104 hours) course covering subjects such as Statistics, Medical Physics, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Immunology & Genetics, Introduction to the Human Body/Basic Anatomy, Physiology, Basic Pharmacology, Mechanisms of Disease, including Basic Pathology, leading to an Entrance Examination (An entrance examination in Paper 1 - Basic Medical Sciences and Paper 2 - Scientific Foundations of Medicine), to be followed by a Selection Interview.
- The fee for the 4-week (104 hours) Access Course is GHC 3000.00.
- Closing Date for the application for the Access Course is Monday, January 12, 2026.
- The date for the commencement of the ACCESS COURSE shall be communicated in due course.
- Admission into the four and half years Medical programme is based on a combined score from the personal statement, entrance examination, and oral selection interview.
- Successful candidates are expected to commence the GEMP in the second semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
- The tuition fee for the GEMP is approximately GHC 28,000.00 per year.
