PROF. FRANCIS B. ZOTOR

Professor Francis Bruno Zotor is an Associate Professor of Public Health Nutrition at the School of Public Health. He is also Director, Office of International Programmes. He has a doctoral training in public health nutrition and is a registered public health nutritionist. He is a recognized leader spanning over two decades in nutrition across Africa and has been instrumental in driving and promoting the establishment of a strong nutrition profession on the continent, training and research to underpin programme delivery especially across the health and education sectors in Africa.
Education
Prof. Zotor trained for his first degree in Biotechnology at the University of Westminster, UK, pursued his Masters in Biotechnology at the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK and later on obtained a PgDip in Higher Education and PhD in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Greenwich, UK.
Work Experience
Prior to joining UHAS, Prof Zotor was contracted to work for a year with Ernst & Young (Ghana) Management Consultants with the responsibility of managing Liberia’s Ministry of Health & Social Welfare Health Sector Pool Fund which was set up to support the implementation of the National Health Plan. Prior to taking up the Ernst and Young offer, he had worked at the University of Greenwich, UK starting off as lecturer and rose to the rank of senior Lecturer.
Science /Research output
Professor Zotor’s areas of research largely revolves around developing and implementing methodologies for nutrition and health related research activities to benefit vulnerable populations across Africa. His research interests cover a global dimension of population and nutritional epidemiology; specifically, the links between poverty, food and nutrition security and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the life cycle. The global context of his work has enabled him to work in both developed and developing societies. Professor Zotor serves on a number of international boards (in Africa, as Trustees of the African Nutrition Society and the Federation of African Nutrition Societies and at the global level as member of the United Nation’s Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Network). Currently, he serves on Council of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS), a body that oversees the strategic directions of nutrition across the globe. He has over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and several international conference presentations in the area of nutrition.
