New UHAS Students’ Representative Council executives were sworn in for the 2021-2022 academic year on 29th September. They are: Hagan Kwabena Quainoo, Acting SRC President; Gertrude Mawumenyo Banni, Federal Treasurer; Patrick Evans Kofi Akabuah, Federal General Secretary; and Anna Akyaa Siaw, Federal Women’s Commissioner.

The Apaloo-Agyemang led administration entreated the new executives to ensure that the Vodafone Ghana Bus Terminal project as well as the revamping of the Trafalgar auditorium and other facilities would be carried out.

Mr. Felix Apaloo, out-going SRC President told the SRC Parliament during his final State of SRC Address that, despite a challenging administrative year due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, his administration managed to successfully steer the student body throughout the year.

Mr. Apaloo said, through the administrative restructuring of the SRC, which saw the creation of official receipts, a mobile money number, renumeration of SRC executives and generation of internally generated funds among others, the organisation has been better positioned to serve students. The SRC’s humanitarian efforts over the year included a blood donation drive, provision of COVID-19 relief items and supporting 30 brilliant but needy students across six UHAS schools with GHS 25,761.00.

In terms of assets, Apaloo said his administration was able to secure a 2021 30-seater coaster bus through an ADB loan facility, revamp the dilapidated canteen on the Hohoe campus, and secure an SRC hostel.

Meanwhile, the UHAS SRC received a certificate of Excellence in Leadership in recognition of the administration's outstanding term in office and contributions towards sustainable impact, transformation and development of Ghana, at the Millennium Youth Impact Awards 2021, held on 25th September.

The State of SRC Address is a constitutional mandate that provides a platform for the Federal SRC president to appear before the UHAS SRC Parliament House to give account of the state of affairs of the student community, indicating progress made, challenges encountered by past SRC administrations, and plans for the students.
