University of Health and Allied Sciences held a Press Launch on 22nd December to mark the beginning of its 10th anniversary celebrations. Established in December 2011 by an act of parliament as a public university to train health care professionals, UHAS began operating in August 2012. Activities planned for these celebrations will extend through the end of July 2022.

Vice Chancellor Professor John Gyapong told the audience that the celebrations would be used as an occasion to showcase the strides being made by UHAS, notwithstanding its young age, hence the theme “Great Giant Rising”.

Representatives from all the local press houses that have been covering UHAS over the years, along with key potential donors, attended the launch in the Council Chamber at the Main Campus, Sokode-Lokoe.

Members of the 10th Anniversary Planning Committee along with deans, directors, representatives from the staff unions, and SRC officers, also participated in the event.

The next item on the anniversary agenda is an official launch planned for late January/early February. This will include a float around Ho and a simultaneous one around Hohoe, where the university’s School of Public Health is located. Details are being worked out, and the confirmed date and itinerary will be announced in due course.
