Story by Ofoe Gator Kugblenu, Directorate of Public Affairs.

A team of facilitators from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, School of Allied Health Sciences, UHAS, took about 50 hospitality staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) through a series of capacity building modules in Food Safety and Hygiene under the theme: “Transforming GBC from bureaucracy to business: the role of hospitality staff.” The facilitators, HOD and Senior Lecturer Dr. Nii Korley Kortei and Mrs. Emelia Awude, Assistant Lecturer and Consultant Nutritionist, told Public Affairs that the training was intended to enlighten/educate and refresh the GBC staff on various topics covering food presentation, foodborne hazards, environmental and personal hygiene, pest management, and psycho-managerial and emotional intelligence. Furthermore, the programme was also meant to foster good relations between UHAS and GBC for future collaborations.

The event, which took place at the plush Tomreik Hotel in East Legon, Accra, had its keynote address delivered by Prof. Amin Alhassan, Director-General of GBC. During the interactive sessions, there was lively and active participation, which was deeply appreciated by GBC. Food Safety and hygiene certificates were issued to participants after the event.

Among the senior GBC officials who attended the training were Augustus Yamson, Deputy Director-General; Madam Mamle Asare, Director of Corporate Affairs; and Mr. Tony Osei, Acting Director of Marketing; also, Mr. Samuel Nikoi, Mr. Candida Jumpah and Mr. Earnest Otoo Larkai of the Marketing Directorate.
