PROF. ELVIS ENOWBEYANG TARKANG
Professor Elvis Enowbeyang Tarkang is the Dean of International Programmes at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, effective August 1, 2023. He is also an associate professor of Public Health Promotion at the School of Public Health, UHAS; and an adjunct associate professor in the School of Nursing and Public Health, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa.
He is the Director/CEO of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Research Network, Cameroon (HIVPREC), an NGO for HIV prevention through health promotion. He is a consultant with ILO on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work; with WHO on HIV-related stigma; and with Family Health International (FHI 360) on USAID-Accelerated Social and Behavior Change (ASBC). He has examined several PhD and MPH/MPhil theses in Health Promotion for various universities, and supervised several students in Public Health at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has also developed and taught several courses in Health Promotion.
EDUCATION
Prof. Tarkang has a PhD in Health Studies (Social and Behavioural Aspects of HIV/AIDS, and Health Promotion) from the University of South Africa.
RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS
His areas of research interest are Social and Behavioural Aspects of HIV/AIDS and Public Health; Health Promotion; Institutional workplace HIV Policy Development; HIV and the World of Work; Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health; Sexuality Education; Maternal and Child Health.
He has multiple publications accessible at Researchgate, Google Scholar, Pubmed (1), Pubmed (2) and Scopus.
MEMBERSHIPS
Prof. Tarkang is the Founder of the Central African Journal of Public Health and the International Journal of HIV/AIDS Prevention, Education and Behavioural Sciences, and also serves as an Editor/ Reviewer for several peer-reviewed Journals. He is an Abstract Mentor for Conferences organised by the International AIDS Society (IAS) and also a Reviewer for the International Conferences for AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) organised by the Society for AIDS in Africa (SSA). He is an Associate Editor of Pan African Medical Journal. He is a member of the Institute of Health Promotion and Education of the UK and a member of the International Union of Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). He is also a certified Health Promotion Practitioner and an Assessor for the Health Promotion Accreditation System of IUHPE and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.
